Dell 600GB Enterprise SAS Drive

The Dell 9WG066-150 is a 2.5-inch enterprise hard drive built for server and storage arrays that require SAS connectivity. It delivers 600GB of capacity with a 10K spindle speed and a 64MB cache for transactional workloads.

6Gbps SAS Interface Limits

The 6Gbps SAS link caps sustained throughput well below the peak of modern solid-state media. Random I/O performance is bounded by the 10K rotational latency and the mechanical seek profile.

600GB Capacity and Headroom

The 600GB volume suits database logs, virtual machine images and tiered storage pools where consistent low-latency reads matter. It fills quickly under heavy write streams or large media libraries, so capacity planning must account for the fixed 600GB ceiling.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 600GB 10K SAS drive or a larger capacity model?

The 600GB 10K 6Gbps SAS drive balances high IOPS with a 64MB cache, making it suited for transactional workloads that need speed over raw capacity.

What does 10K RPM deliver in a live server?

10K RPM reduces rotational latency and raises sustained transfer rates, so databases and virtual machines see faster random read and write response on the 6Gbps SAS link.

How does the 6Gbps SAS interface limit real-world speed?

The 6Gbps SAS interface caps the drive at 600MB/s theoretical bandwidth, so actual throughput will not exceed that limit even with the 64MB cache.
