Enterprise 1.2 TB SAS drive

The Dell AL14SEB120NY is a 1.2 TB internal hard drive spinning at 10000 RPM with a 12 Gb/s SAS interface. It fits 2.5 inch drive bays in servers and storage arrays that require enterprise-class reliability.

12 Gb/s SAS interface

The 12 Gb/s SAS link provides dual-port redundancy and full-duplex bandwidth for multi-drive arrays. This interface supports hot-plug capability and consistent throughput under heavy random workloads.

1.2 TB capacity headroom

At 1.2 TB the drive holds operating systems, databases and virtual machine images with room for growth. The 10000 RPM spindle keeps latency low for transactional workloads while sequential transfers saturate the SAS bus.

Questions about this item

How often should the 10000RPM SAS drive be checked or replaced in a RAID array?

Enterprise SAS drives at 10000RPM are rated for continuous operation; plan a SMART health review annually and budget replacement around the five-year mark.

What is the first bottleneck when the 12Gb/s SAS link runs sustained writes?

The 10000RPM spindle caps sequential throughput well below the 12Gb/s interface ceiling, so the mechanical media becomes the limit first.

How much heat and noise does the 2.5" 10000RPM drive add to a server running all day?

A 2.5" 10000RPM enterprise drive typically draws under 10 W, producing modest heat and a low whine that is inaudible in a rack with normal airflow.
