Dell BCM57840S Quad Port 10Gb SFP+ rNDC

This Dell BCM57840S quad-port 10Gb SFP+ rNDC adds four 10-gigabit fibre links to a compatible Dell PowerEdge server. It is aimed at administrators who need high-throughput networking for virtualisation clusters or storage fabrics. The card uses a Broadcom 57840S controller and installs in the dedicated rNDC slot, leaving standard PCIe bays free for other adapters.

Build quality and daily implications

The module is supplied new with updated firmware and tested components, so it is ready for production deployment. Four SFP+ cages accept a mix of short-range, long-range or direct-attach cables, letting you match each port to the link distance required. Because the interface is fixed to the rNDC form factor, the adapter only fits Dell servers that provide that specific mezzanine connector.
