Dell COMPELLENT 600 GB SAS Drive

This Dell COMPELLENT 7149N-CML is a 600 GB internal hard drive with a 10 000 RPM spindle and a SAS 6 Gb/s interface. It includes the COMPELLENT caddy for direct mounting in compatible bays. The 64 MB buffer supports sustained throughput in transaction-heavy workloads. The drive is supplied new.

Suited for servers needing 10K SAS storage

This drive fits arrays and enclosures that accept 2.5 inch SAS disks and require 10 000 RPM performance at 600 GB capacity. It is not for platforms that lack a SAS backplane or controller. Buyers who need more capacity than 600 GB should consider higher-capacity models. Laptop or desktop SFF bays without SAS support cannot use this unit.

Interface is SAS 6 Gb/s

The single specification that decides fit is the 2.5 inch SAS 6 Gb/s interface. A host bus adapter or RAID card with a matching SAS port is mandatory for operation. No other connector type on this drive will work. Verify the controller supports 6 Gb/s SAS before purchase.

Questions about this item

How much heat and noise does the 10000RPM SAS drive produce when running continuously?

The 2.5in 10000RPM SAS drive generates typical enterprise-level heat and audible seek noise; ensure your chassis has adequate airflow for sustained operation.

What controller or backplane must I already have for the 6Gb/s SAS interface to work?

You need a SAS host bus adapter or RAID controller with a 6Gb/s SAS port and a 2.5in drive bay that accepts the included COMPELLENT caddy.

Will the 600GB 10K SAS drive work in a server that currently uses 3Gb/s SAS drives?

Yes, the 6Gb/s SAS drive is backward compatible with 3Gb/s SAS backplanes and will negotiate the lower link speed automatically.
