Dell CWHNN 300GB SAS Drive

This Dell CWHNN internal hard drive delivers 300GB of storage in a 2.5 inch form factor. It operates at 10000 rpm with a 32MB cache and a 6Gb/s SAS interface. The drive ships in a hot-swap tray for direct installation into compatible bays.

Suits SAS servers and arrays needing 10k speed

This drive fits servers and storage arrays that accept 2.5 inch SAS drives and benefit from 10000 rpm performance. It is not for systems limited to 3.5 inch bays or those requiring higher capacity per drive slot.

6Gb/s SAS interface decides compatibility

The single specification that determines fit is the 6Gb/s SAS connection. The host backplane or controller must support this interface; otherwise the drive will not function.

Questions about this item

Will the 10000 rpm spindle speed become the first bottleneck during sustained heavy writes?

The 10000 rpm spindle speed limits sustained write throughput to the mechanical maximum of the 300GB platters.

How much heat and noise does the 2.5 inch SAS drive produce when running all day?

The 10000 rpm motor and SAS interface generate typical enterprise-level heat and audible seek noise during continuous operation.

What controller or backplane must I already have for the 6Gb/s SAS interface to work?

A 6Gb/s SAS HBA, RAID controller or hot-swap backplane with a SAS port is required to connect the drive.
