Dell CWHNN 300GB 10K SAS Drive

The Dell CWHNN is a 2.5 inch internal hard drive with a 300GB capacity and a 10000 RPM spindle speed. It connects via a SAS interface operating at 6 Gb/s. The drive is supplied new and has been tested by the supplier.

Suits arrays needing 10K SAS spindles

This drive fits servers and storage arrays that require a 2.5 inch 10000 RPM SAS drive for high random I/O performance. It is not for systems that only accept SATA drives, nor for builds needing larger capacities or the lower power draw of solid-state storage.

SAS 6 Gb/s interface

The single specification that decides fitment is the SAS 6 Gb/s interface combined with the 2.5 inch form factor. The host backplane or controller must support SAS signalling at this speed; a SATA-only backplane will not recognise the drive.

Questions about this item

What drive bay size and interface connector does the 2.5-inch SAS drive need?

The drive fits a standard 2.5-inch bay and connects through a SAS interface.

Which step is often missed when installing the CWHNN drive in a Dell server?

The drive must be seated in the hot-swap carrier so the SAS connector engages fully with the backplane.

What component of the 300GB 10000RPM mechanism will eventually wear out?

The spindle motor and actuator bearings inside the sealed helium enclosure degrade after years of continuous rotation.
