Dell D1710 Slim Optical Drive

The Dell D1710 is a slim combination drive that reads DVD-ROM discs and writes CD-RW media at up to 24× speed. It is built for Inspiron laptops that use the thin form factor and need a single drive for both reading and writing tasks.

Not for buyers who need DVD writing

This unit cannot burn DVD±R or DVD±RW discs and does not read Blu-ray media. Buyers who want to create video DVDs or store larger backups on dual-layer DVDs should choose a drive that explicitly lists DVD-writing capability.

Questions about this item

What does the 24X speed rating mean when the D1710 is installed in an Inspiron laptop?

The 24X figure is the maximum CD write speed; actual throughput depends on the disc quality and the laptop's own controller.

Which interface does the D1710 use and what does it limit in practice?

The drive fits the slim optical bay used by compatible Inspiron models, so the bay's connector and the system BIOS determine the usable read and write rates.
