Dell F617N 300GB 15K SAS Drive

The Dell F617N is a 300GB 3.5-inch internal hard drive spinning at 15000RPM with a SAS interface. It provides 16MB of cache and supports hot-swap operation for compatible systems. This drive is built for high-transaction workloads where low latency and consistent throughput are priorities.

Suited for enterprise arrays and database tiers

It suits administrators who need fast mechanical storage for transactional databases, email servers or virtualisation host paging. Buyers who require larger capacities per spindle or solid-state endurance for write-heavy logs should evaluate alternative media.

Fits 3.5-inch hot-swap bays with SAS backplanes

The drive installs directly into 3.5-inch hot-swap trays served by a SAS backplane and controller. Its hot-swap capability allows replacement without powering down the chassis, preserving uptime for critical arrays.

Questions about this item

Does my system need a SAS controller to use the DELL F617N 300GB drive?

Yes, the drive uses a SAS interface so a compatible SAS controller or backplane is required for it to function.

Will the 3.5-inch SAS drive fit in the same hot-swap bays as my existing 3.5-inch drives?

The drive is a 3.5-inch form factor with hot-swap capability, so it fits standard 3.5-inch hot-swap bays that support SAS signalling.

How can I verify the drive spins at 15000 RPM after installation?

Check the drive model ST3300657SS in your RAID utility or SMART tool; it will report 15000 RPM and a 16 MB cache if operating correctly.
