Dell FR6W6 1.2TB 10K SAS Drive

The Dell FR6W6 is a new 1.2TB internal hard drive with a 2.5 inch form factor. It operates at 10000 RPM over a SAS interface at 12Gbps. This drive suits servers or storage arrays needing high-speed mechanical storage.

Suits SAS bays needing 10K speed

This drive fits 2.5 inch SAS hot-swap bays that require 10000 RPM performance. Buyers who need larger capacities or SATA-only connectivity should look elsewhere. Systems without a SAS controller cannot use this drive.

12Gbps SAS interface decides compatibility

The single specification that decides fit is the 12Gbps SAS interface. Your backplane and controller must support this exact protocol and speed. A SATA-only backplane will not recognise the drive.

Questions about this item

How often should I plan to replace the 10000 RPM mechanical drive in a 24/7 server?

Enterprise 10K drives are rated for continuous operation; typical service life reaches five years before preventive replacement is advised.

Will the 12 Gbps SAS link or the 10000 RPM platters saturate first during sustained writes?

The 10000 RPM rotational speed limits sustained throughput well before the 12 Gbps SAS interface becomes a bottleneck.

How much heat and noise does the 2.5 inch 10K drive add when running all day?

The 2.5 inch 10000 RPM mechanism produces moderate heat and audible seek noise; ensure adequate airflow in the chassis.
