Dell FR83F 900 GB SAS Hard Drive

The Dell FR83F is a 900 GB hard drive spinning at 10000 RPM with a SAS 6Gbps interface and a 64 MB cache. It uses a 2.5 inch form factor and measures 15 mm in height. The drive is supplied new and is intended for systems that accept SAS-connected storage.

Suits servers and arrays needing SAS 6Gbps 2.5

Buyers whose hardware only supports SATA connectors should not purchase this drive. It is also unsuitable for bays that cannot accommodate a 15 mm drive height. Systems requiring a different capacity or interface should look at alternative storage options.

Questions about this item

Will this 15mm 2.5in drive fit the drive bay in my Dell server?

The drive is 15mm tall and uses the 2.5in form factor, so it fits bays designed for that height.

Can I connect this SAS 6Gbps drive to my older SATA 6Gbps controller?

A SAS drive cannot operate on a SATA controller; it requires a SAS host bus adapter or RAID controller that supports 6Gbps SAS.
