250 GB SATA enterprise drive

The Dell H962F is a 3.5 inch internal hard drive built for Dell PowerEdge and PowerVault systems. It delivers 250 GB of storage at 7200 RPM with a 16 MB cache on a 3 Gb/s SATA interface. The drive ships new with zero hours and includes an R Series caddy for direct installation.

R Series caddy and SAS bay fit

Each unit comes pre-mounted in a Dell R Series tray that slides into 3.5 inch SAS or SATA drive bays without extra hardware. Enterprise validation means the firmware and mechanical tolerances are qualified for continuous operation in Dell storage arrays. The SATA connector aligns with standard backplanes for hot-plug service.

Replaces failed array members

This drive restores capacity in certified Dell enclosures where a matching part number is required for RAID rebuilds. The jump is worth it when the array demands a Dell-qualified SATA spindle with the original 7200 RPM spec. It does not serve builds that need larger capacities or 6 Gb/s throughput.

Questions about this item

What practical speed ceiling does the 3 Gb/s SATA interface impose on this drive?

The 3 Gb/s SATA link caps the maximum burst transfer rate at the interface level, while sustained throughput from the 7200 RPM platters will be lower than that ceiling.

What physical mounting hardware is required for the 3.5-inch form factor in a Dell system?

The drive includes an R Series caddy or tray that slides into a 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drive bay on compatible PowerEdge or PowerVault platforms.

Which installation step is most often missed when fitting this drive into a Dell server?

Securing the drive inside the supplied R Series caddy before inserting the assembly into the hot-swap bay is the step most frequently overlooked.
