Dell 600 GB 15K SAS Drive

The Dell HDEAE00DAA51 is a 2.5-inch SAS hard drive spinning at 15000 RPM with a 600 GB capacity. It targets administrators who need fast, low-latency storage for transactional databases or virtualisation hosts in compatible Dell PowerEdge servers.

600 GB at 15000 RPM

The 600 GB capacity suits read-heavy workloads such as OLTP databases, logging tiers or boot volumes where spindle speed matters more than raw capacity. The 15000 RPM spindle keeps average latency low, but the drive will saturate its SAS 6 Gb/s link before larger-capacity alternatives run out of space.

Replaces Slower SAS Spindles

This drive upgrades 10K RPM SAS disks in supported PowerEdge chassis from the R210 through R930 families where the 2.5-inch bay and SAS backplane are already present. The jump is worthwhile when the application is bound by seek time rather than throughput, and the existing array can accept the higher power draw of a 15K spindle.

Yes, the drive is listed as compatible with the Dell R720 among other PowerEdge servers.

How can I verify the 15000 RPM drive is operating correctly after installation?

The drive should be recognised by the RAID controller BIOS and report its 600GB capacity at 6Gb/s link speed.

Does the HDEAE00DAA51 include a drive caddy or mounting bracket for the 2.5" bay?

The drive is supplied as the bare 2.5" mechanism; a Dell hot-plug caddy must be purchased separately.
