SKU CH-0BM5-QWK31 MPN HUC101212CSS600

A 1.2 TB SAS hard drive spinning at 10,000 RPM with 64 MB cache in a 2.5 inch form factor

  • 2 TB capacity supports data-intensive workloads

1.2 TB SAS drive for enterprise arrays

The Dell HUC101212CSS600 is a 1.2 TB SAS hard drive spinning at 10000 RPM with a 64 MB cache. It is built for Dell EqualLogic storage arrays that accept 2.5 inch SAS drives and includes the matching caddy tray. This unit targets IT teams maintaining or expanding existing EqualLogic pools rather than general-purpose PCs.

Capacity and headroom in a 10K spindle

The 1.2 TB capacity suits mixed read and write workloads such as databases or virtualisation logs where 10K RPM keeps latency low. The 6 Gb/s SAS link and 64 MB cache absorb burst traffic, but sustained sequential throughput will saturate before higher-capacity or SSD tiers. Workloads needing multiple terabytes per drive or sub-millisecond latency will outgrow this spindle.

2.5 inch form factor with integrated caddy

The drive ships mounted in a Dell-specific 2.5 inch tray that slides directly into EqualLogic drive bays, so no separate carrier is required. The SAS connector follows the standard 2.5 inch SAS pinout, ensuring a firm seat and reliable signal contact during hot-swap operations. Build quality matches original Dell specifications for vibration tolerance and thermal performance inside the array chassis.

Questions about this item

Will the 1.2 TB SAS drive work in a server that only has 3 Gb/s SAS backplanes?

The drive uses a 6 Gb/s SAS interface and will negotiate down to 3 Gb/s on older backplanes, though maximum throughput will be limited to the slower link speed.

How can I verify the 10000 RPM drive is spinning correctly after installation?

The drive should be recognised by the RAID controller BIOS or OS disk utility showing 1.2 TB capacity, 64 MB cache and a healthy SMART status with no reallocated sectors.

Does the package include the caddy tray shown in the title or must I order it separately?

The supplier description states the drive ships with the caddy tray included, so no separate tray purchase is required for Dell EqualLogic bays.
