Enterprise 2.5" SAS drive

This Dell HUC101812CSS204 is a 1.2TB enterprise hard drive spinning at 10000RPM with a 12Gbps SAS interface and 128MB cache. It ships new with a Gen13 PowerEdge caddy for direct installation into compatible server bays. The 2.5-inch form factor fits dense chassis designs where space is limited.

Server builders and storage arrays

The drive suits administrators expanding Gen13 PowerEdge servers such as the R330, R430, R530, R630, R730, R730xd, R930, T330, T430, T530 or T630. Buyers needing a different interface protocol or larger capacities should look elsewhere. Workstations without a SAS controller cannot use this drive.

12Gbps SAS interface

The single specification that decides fit is the 12Gbps SAS interface; the host backplane and controller must support this exact speed and protocol. Without a compatible SAS HBA or RAID card the drive will not function. Verify your server documentation before purchase.

Questions about this item

Which 2.5" SAS caddy or tray is included for the GEN13 PowerEdge servers?

The drive ships with the Dell GEN13 PowerEdge caddy that fits the R330, R430, R530, R630, R730, R730xd, R930, T330, T430, T530 and T630 2.5" drive bays.

What is the correct orientation and connector alignment when sliding the HUC101812CSS204 into the caddy?

Insert the drive label-side up so the SAS connector engages the backplane; the caddy keying prevents upside-down insertion, but forcing it can bend the 12Gb/s pins.

When should the 128MB cache drive be replaced in a 10000RPM RAID array?

Monitor SMART reallocated-sector count and seek-error rate; plan replacement once reallocated sectors appear or annualised failure-rate projections exceed your RAID rebuild window.
