Dell 1.8TB 10K SAS Drive

This 2.5-inch internal hard drive delivers 1.8TB of storage on a 12Gb/s SAS interface. It spins at 10000RPM with a 128MB cache using 512e formatting. The unit is built for Dell PowerEdge Gen13 servers including the R330, R430, R530, R630, R730, R730xd, R930, T330, T430, T530 and T630 models.

Included Gen13 Caddy

A Dell PowerEdge Gen13 server caddy is supplied with the drive. This tray allows direct installation into compatible 2.5-inch drive bays without sourcing a separate carrier. It matches the mounting points and latch mechanism of the listed R and T series chassis.

Capacity and Workload Fit

The 1.8TB capacity suits databases, virtualisation hosts and mixed read-write workloads that benefit from 10K spindle speed. The 12Gb/s SAS link and 128MB buffer sustain high random IOPS for transactional applications. Workloads needing larger single volumes or all-flash latency will exceed what this mechanical drive can provide.

Questions about this item

Does the 1.8TB 10000RPM SAS drive include a tray for future replacement in a PowerEdge server?

Yes, the drive ships with a PowerEdge Gen13 caddy so it can be swapped directly into supported servers such as the R630 or T430.

What performance limit appears first when the 10000RPM 12Gb/s SAS drive runs sustained workloads?

The 10000RPM spindle speed and 128MB cache set the maximum sustained transfer rate before the mechanical latency becomes the bottleneck.

How much heat and noise does the 2.5in 1.8TB SAS drive produce during all-day operation?

As a 10000RPM 2.5in enterprise drive it generates more heat and acoustic output than slower nearline models, so adequate chassis airflow is required.
