Dell 600GB 15K SAS drive with server tray

This is a new Dell enterprise hard drive rated at 600GB capacity and 15000RPM rotational speed. It uses a 3.5in SAS 6Gb/s interface and includes a 64MB cache buffer. The unit ships with a PowerEdge server caddy tray and shows zero hours of prior use.

Fits listed PowerEdge R and T series servers

Compatible models include R310, R320, R410, R415, R420, R510, R515, R520, R610, R620, R710, R720, R720xd, T310, T320, T410, T420, T610, T620 and T710. Builders needing a different form factor, interface or capacity should select another drive.

15000RPM spindle speed determines latency

The 15K rotational speed is the key specification for transaction-heavy workloads that demand low access times. Verify that the target system accepts 3.5in SAS drives before purchase.

Questions about this item

How do I install the HUS156060VLS600 into a PowerEdge R720 and what step is often missed?

Slide the drive into the supplied caddy until the SAS connector seats firmly, then lock the caddy handle; the step often missed is not pushing the drive all the way home before latching.

What maintenance or replacement will the 15000RPM SAS drive need later?

Plan to replace the drive after its rated service life or if SMART reallocated-sector counts rise; no user-serviceable parts exist inside the sealed helium enclosure.

What limit appears first on the 6Gb/s interface during sustained writes?

The 6Gb/s SAS link saturates at roughly 600 MB/s, so sustained sequential throughput hits the interface ceiling before the 64MB cache or 15000RPM mechanics become the bottleneck.
