Dell Enterprise 2TB SAS hard drive

This Dell Enterprise HUS724020ALS640 is a 2TB internal hard drive spinning at 7200RPM with a 6Gb/s SAS interface and a 64MB cache. It arrives new and includes the R Series caddy for hot-swap installation in compatible 3.5-inch bays. The nearline design targets bulk storage in server and workstation environments.

Suited for arrays needing high-capacity spinning

This drive fits administrators expanding nearline storage pools where sequential throughput and cost per terabyte matter more than random access speed. It is not for workloads that demand the low latency or high IOPS of solid-state media, nor for systems that only accept connections other than 6Gb/s SAS.

The 6Gb/s SAS interface decides compatibility

The drive communicates over a 6Gb/s SAS link, so the host controller or backplane must support that exact interface and speed. Without a matching SAS port the drive will not function, making the interface the single specification that determines whether this is the right part.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the drive is spinning at 7200RPM after installation?

Check the SMART data or BIOS hardware monitor; both will report the 7200RPM rotational speed once the SAS drive is recognised by the controller.

Does the package include the R Series caddy or tray shown in the listing?

Yes, the R Series caddy/tray is included so the 3.5" SAS drive can be hot-swapped into compatible Dell bays without a separate purchase.

Which capacity version of the HUS724020ALS640 should I select for a 2TB requirement?

The HUS724020ALS640 is the 2TB model; the part number itself identifies the 2TB capacity, so no other version is needed.
