Dell enterprise SAS drive

This new Dell HUS724030ALS640 is a 3TB 3.5-inch internal hard drive spinning at 7200RPM with a 6Gb/s SAS interface and 64MB cache. It ships with a Dell PowerEdge server caddy for direct installation into compatible bays.

Suits Dell PowerEdge servers; not for non-SAS bays

The included tray fits Dell PowerEdge models including R310, R320, R410, R415, R420, R510, R515, R520, R610, R620, R710, R720, R720xd, T310, T320, T410, T420, T610, T620 and T710. Buyers whose systems lack a 6Gb/s SAS backplane cannot use this drive.

6Gb/s SAS interface decides fit

The drive connects through a 3.5-inch SAS 6Gb/s interface, so the host must provide that exact connection. Without a compatible SAS controller or backplane the drive will not function, regardless of physical bay size.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 3TB version of this drive?

The 3TB capacity matches the HUS724030ALS640 model and provides 3000GB of storage for PowerEdge servers.

What does the 7.2K RPM rating deliver in a server?

7200RPM rotational speed gives consistent throughput for nearline workloads in the listed PowerEdge models.

How does the 6Gb/s SAS interface limit real-world speed?

The SAS 6Gb/s link caps the maximum transfer rate at 6Gb/s, so sustained reads and writes cannot exceed that bandwidth.
