Target user and purpose

This Dell Inspiron 15 is a new Windows 11 Home laptop built around a 12th Gen Intel Core i5-1235U processor with 10 cores and 12 threads. It ships with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD. The 15.6 inch Full HD touchscreen runs at 60 Hz and uses integrated Intel UHD Graphics.

Who this suits and who it does not

The machine suits students and office workers who need a responsive touchscreen for note-taking or presentations and who rely on web apps and standard productivity software. Buyers who want more memory than the single 8GB module provides or who need discrete graphics for gaming or video rendering should look elsewhere.

Deciding specification

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics and 60 Hz touchscreen define the visual ceiling. If your workflow demands a dedicated GPU or a higher refresh rate panel, this configuration will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

How do I add more memory to the DDR4 SO-DIMM slot and what step do people skip?

Remove the base cover, insert the DDR4 module at an angle until the clips lock, then reassemble; people often forget to seat the module fully before closing the case.

Which component will need replacement first during the laptop's life?

The 3-cell 41 WHr battery will degrade before the 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD or the soldered 8GB DDR4 memory.

What limit appears first when the i5-1235U runs at 4.4 GHz for a long period?

The 65W power supply and shared thermal envelope throttle the two performance cores before the 60 Hz touchscreen or Intel UHD graphics become a bottleneck.
