15.6" FHD touchscreen laptop

The DELL Inspiron 15 is a 15.6 inch Full HD touchscreen laptop powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8-core processor with a 4.5 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 24 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB PCIe SSD running Windows 11 Home. Integrated AMD Radeon graphics handle the display output.

Suits home and office users wanting touch input

This configuration suits buyers who want a responsive touchscreen for everyday productivity, web browsing and media consumption. The 24 GB memory and 1 TB storage support multitasking and large file libraries. Buyers who need a discrete GPU for gaming or professional 3D work should look elsewhere. The chassis lacks a backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader.

24 GB DDR4 memory and 1 TB PCIe SSD

The single specification that decides fit is the 24 GB DDR4 memory paired with a 1 TB PCIe SSD. This combination determines whether the system can hold the buyer's working set and applications without immediate upgrades. Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5 provide wireless connectivity. Ports include USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, USB 2.0 Type-A, HDMI 1.4 and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Questions about this item

What does the USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port's 5Gbps cap mean for external displays?

The 5Gbps bandwidth on the USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port limits video throughput to roughly 4K at 30 Hz or 1080p at higher refresh rates, so a 15.6 inch FHD touchscreen at 1920 x 1080 runs well within the link.

What clearance does the 0.77 inch chassis need for the USB Type-C and HDMI 1.4 ports on the left edge?

The 14.13 x 9.29 x 0.77 inch body leaves the left-side USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C and HDMI 1.4 ports flush with the case, so allow at least 15 mm behind the laptop for straight cables or use right-angle adapters in tight bags.

How do I initialise the 1 TB PCIe SSD after the engineer opens the seal for the 24 GB DDR4 upgrade?

On first boot, Windows 11 Home launches the OOBE; open Disk Management, initialise the 1 TB PCIe drive as GPT, create a single NTFS volume, then run Windows Update to install the AMD Ryzen 7 7730U chipset and Radeon graphics drivers.
