Quad-port Gigabit Ethernet card

The Dell KH08P is a Broadcom 5719 plug-in card that adds four RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet ports through a PCI Express 2.0 x4 slot. It is designed for servers that need extra wired network connections in a single expansion slot. The card supports 10/100/1000Base-T over twisted-pair cabling and meets RoHS environmental standards.

Servers needing multiple Gigabit links

This card suits administrators who want to aggregate bandwidth, separate traffic or add redundancy on a server platform with an available PCI Express 2.0 x4 slot. It does not serve builds that require 10 Gigabit or faster speeds, fibre connectivity, or a different host interface such as PCI Express 3.0 or OCP.

PCI Express 2.0 x4 host interface

The card installs in a PCI Express 2.0 x4 slot, so the server must provide that exact interface and physical clearance for a 2.5-inch high by 5.2-inch deep plug-in card. Verify the slot version and chassis space before purchase, as a narrower or newer-generation slot will not change the card's electrical requirement.

Questions about this item

Will the PCI Express 2.0 x4 host interface limit throughput when all four RJ-45 ports run at 1000 Mbps?

The x4 lane provides enough bandwidth for four gigabit links, so the interface will not be the bottleneck under sustained load.

How much heat does the card produce during continuous server operation?

As a passive plug-in card with no onboard fan, it relies on server chassis airflow; power draw is typical for a quad-port 10/100/1000Base-T adapter.

What maintenance does the Broadcom 5719 quad-port card require over time?

No scheduled maintenance is needed; keep server air filters clean so the 2.5-inch high, 5.2-inch deep card stays within thermal limits.
