Portable 2-in-1 with detachable keyboard

The Dell Latitude 5290 is a 12.5 inch convertible built for mobile professionals. It runs Windows 11 Pro on an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 16 GB of onboard DDR4 memory and a 256 GB NVMe M.2 SSD. The detachable travel keyboard allows quick transitions between tablet and laptop modes.

Suits mobile workers needing pen input

This device fits users who value a lightweight 12.5 inch touchscreen with stylus support for annotations and signatures. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 handles office applications and video playback but cannot drive 3D workloads or modern games. Buyers who want more storage or user-replaceable memory should look elsewhere.

16 GB soldered DDR4 and 256 GB NVMe

Memory is fixed at 16 GB with zero open slots, so the capacity cannot be increased after purchase. The single M.2 256 GB NVMe drive is the only internal storage and can be swapped for a larger module. This specification decides whether the platform meets long-term workload requirements.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the detachable keyboard and what alignment step is often missed?

Line up the magnetic connector strip on the bottom edge of the 12.5 inch tablet with the keyboard pogo pins, then press firmly until the magnets snap — the screen will not recognise the keyboard if the strip is offset by even a few millimetres.

Which components will need replacement first and what are the part constraints?

The 65 watt AC adapter and the stylus pen are the only user-replaceable items supplied; the 16 GB DDR4 memory is soldered with zero slots, and the 256 GB NVMe M.2 drive is the sole storage device.

What performance limit appears first during a long compile or video export?

The Intel Core i7-8650U quad core processor drops from its 4.2 GHz turbo to the base 1.9 GHz once the integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 and CPU share the thermal budget of the fanless 0.7 inch chassis.
