Genuine Dell OEM Palmrest Assembly

This is a genuine Dell OEM palmrest and touchpad assembly for Latitude 5400 and 5401 laptops. It carries part numbers R2F42 and A1899M. The unit is designed specifically for Japanese keyboard layouts with a single-point touchpad configuration. Buyers needing a replacement for US-English or other regional keyboards cannot use this part.

Bundled Touchpad Module And Indicators

The assembly includes the touchpad module, integrated mouse buttons and an LED status indicator. These components arrive pre-fitted to the palmrest frame, so no separate cable routing or button alignment is required. The single-point layout matches the factory design for the listed Latitude models.

Direct Replacement Installation

Installation consists of removing the existing palmrest and securing this assembly in its place using the original screw points. The Japanese key cut-outs align only with the corresponding keyboard, so verifying the keyboard region before fitting avoids a mismatch. No smart-card reader cut-out is present on this version.

Questions about this item

Will the R2F42 palmrest need the touchpad module replaced separately after heavy use?

The assembly ships with the touchpad module and mouse buttons already installed, so the whole unit is replaced together if wear appears.

What compatibility limit appears first when fitting this palmrest on a Latitude 5400?

It only fits Japanese single-point keyboards without a smart-card reader; US-English or dual-point layouts will not align.

Does the LED status indicator add noticeable heat or power draw during all-day operation?

The indicator is a low-current LED on the palmrest assembly and does not generate measurable heat or power load.
