Latitude 5490 business laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch business laptop built for mobile professionals. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor with a base frequency of 1.7 GHz and 6 MB cache. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1920 x 1080 non-touch FHD display. The system includes 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD for fast storage.

Suits travellers; not for GPU workloads

This unit suits travellers and office users who need reliable productivity, video conferencing via the integrated webcam, and external display connections through HDMI and USB-C DisplayPort. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless cover wired and wireless networking. Buyers who need discrete graphics performance for rendering, gaming or heavy creative workloads should look elsewhere, as the platform relies solely on integrated graphics.

8 GB soldered memory

The 8 GB DDR4 memory configuration is the specification that determines suitability for multitasking. The capacity is fixed and not user-expandable, so workloads that regularly exceed this limit will encounter paging and reduced responsiveness. Buyers anticipating heavier memory demands should consider a different system.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 512 GB NVMe drive or look for a larger capacity?

The 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD provides fast boot and application loading; if you store large media libraries locally, an external drive can supplement it.

What does the 1.7 GHz base clock mean for everyday performance?

The quad-core i5-8350U runs at 1.7 GHz with 6 MB cache and 15 W TDP, delivering responsive office, web and multitasking performance within a thin chassis.

What does the USB-C DisplayPort connection actually support?

The single USB-C port carries DisplayPort video, allowing one external monitor alongside the HDMI and VGA outputs for multi-display setups.
