Latitude 5490 business laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0-inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i5-8350U processor running at 1.7 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of memory and a 1000 GB solid-state drive. Windows 10 Pro is installed and an AC adapter is included.

Sustained workload behaviour

The dual-core i5-8350U handles typical office multitasking and web workloads without thermal throttling during extended sessions. The solid-state drive keeps application launches and file saves responsive over long periods. Battery life will vary with screen brightness and workload intensity.

Upgrade perspective

This unit replaces an older hard-drive laptop or a machine limited to 8 GB of RAM, delivering faster boot times and smoother multitasking. Buyers who need a dedicated graphics processor or a larger display should look elsewhere. The 90-day warranty covers functional defects.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the i5-8350U get when the Latitude 5490 runs all day?

The 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5-8350U is a low-power U-series chip, so fan noise stays low and surface temperatures remain modest during extended workloads.

What must I already own to use the 14.0-inch Latitude 5490 besides the included AC adapter?

The laptop ships with Windows 10 Pro, 16 GB RAM and a 1000 GB SSD installed, so only a power outlet and your user credentials are required to start working.

Will my older USB-A peripherals and external monitors connect to the Latitude 5490 without adapters?

The 5490 retains full-size USB-A and HDMI ports, so legacy mice, keyboards, drives and displays plug in directly.
