Latitude 5490 for everyday work

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch laptop built for everyday productivity. It runs Windows 10 Pro on a 7th Gen Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor with a base speed of 2.6 GHz and a turbo boost up to 3.5 GHz. The system includes 16GB DDR4 memory and a 256GB solid-state drive for responsive multitasking and fast boot times.

Ports and connectivity included

A USB 3.1 Type-C port with DisplayPort support joins three USB 3.1 Type-A ports for peripheral connections. Video output options cover HDMI and VGA so you can attach a monitor or projector without an adapter. An SD card reader, universal audio jack, RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet and Noble Wedge lock slot complete the physical interface set. Wireless uses Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 8265 with Bluetooth 4.2.

Check your OS and display needs

Verify that Windows 10 Pro meets your software compatibility requirements before purchase. The 14.0 inch anti-glare panel is non-touch and offers HD resolution with a 720p webcam above the screen. Buyers who need a touchscreen or higher pixel density should look elsewhere. The integrated Intel HD Graphics handles standard office tasks but is not suited for intensive 3D workloads.

Questions about this item

Can the 256 GB SSD be replaced with a larger drive later?

The laptop includes a 256 GB SSD; storage can be upgraded by swapping the drive for a compatible replacement.

Which component hits its limit first during long, heavy workloads?

The dual-core i5-7300U tops out at 3.5 GHz under Turbo Boost, so sustained multi-threaded tasks will saturate the CPU before other parts.

How loud and hot does the 14.0 inch chassis get when running all day?

The compact 14.0 inch body relies on a single fan; expect noticeable warmth and audible fan noise during continuous high-load use.
