Business travel laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14 inch laptop built for professionals who move between offices and client sites. Its Intel Core i5-8350U processor with four cores and eight threads handles typical productivity workloads. The 8GB DDR4 memory and 2TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD provide responsive multitasking and ample local storage for documents and media. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed for immediate deployment.

Thermals and power

The 15W quad-core CPU is designed for efficient operation in a slim chassis, helping to extend battery runtime during mobile use. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares system memory and keeps heat output modest for everyday tasks. The non-touch 1366 x 768 HD display draws less power than higher-resolution panels. Fan noise stays low during typical office applications and video playback.

Connectivity and accessories

One USB-C port with DisplayPort alternate mode, one HDMI port and one VGA port let you drive external monitors or projectors without adapters. Three USB 3.0 Type-A ports support legacy peripherals and flash drives. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n or better wireless provide wired and wireless network options. The box includes the laptop, a charger and the installed battery.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2 TB NVMe M.2 SSD and what step is often missed?

The drive slots into the M.2 PCIe connector at a slight angle, then is secured with the single retaining screw; people often forget to tighten that screw, leaving the drive unseated.

What maintenance will the 8 GB DDR4 memory and 2 TB NVMe SSD need later?

The memory is soldered and not upgradeable, so no module swaps are possible; the NVMe drive can be replaced with another M.2 PCIe SSD if capacity or speed demands change.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the Core i5-8350U with Intel UHD 620 graphics?

The 15 W processor thermal envelope triggers throttling before the integrated GPU becomes the bottleneck, especially when driving the 1366 x 768 panel continuously.
