Purpose-built business laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch laptop designed for professionals who need a reliable Windows 10 Pro machine for daily office tasks and travel. Its Intel Core i5-8350U processor with four cores and 6MB cache handles standard productivity workloads efficiently. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1366 x 768 HD display for clear visuals.

Best for mobile workers.

This configuration suits users who value portability, a quad-core CPU, and 16GB DDR4 memory for multitasking across business applications. The 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD provides fast boot and load times for documents and email. Buyers who need a dedicated graphics processor for video editing, 3D rendering, or modern gaming should look at something else.

Deciding spec: 1366 x 768 HD non-touch screen

The display resolution and panel type are the single specification that determines whether this laptop fits the user's workflow. Text and spreadsheets render adequately at this pixel density, but designers or analysts requiring sharper detail or touch input will find the screen limiting. No other component overrides this constraint for the intended use case.

Questions about this item

How much heat and power does the 15 W Core i5-8350U generate when the Latitude 5490 runs all day?

The processor is rated at 15 W, so sustained workloads keep heat and power draw low, and the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 adds no separate thermal load.

What must I already own to use the single USB-C/DisplayPort and the HDMI port on this 5490?

You need a USB-C or DisplayPort cable for the USB-C port and a standard HDMI cable for the HDMI port; the laptop also provides three USB 3.0 Type-A ports for existing peripherals.

Will my older VGA monitor and wired Gigabit network work with the Latitude 5490?

Yes, the laptop includes a native VGA port and a 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet jack, so legacy displays and wired networks connect directly without adapters.
