Built for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0" laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor running at 1.70 GHz with 6MB cache. It ships with 16GB DDR4 memory and a 128GB M.2 SATA SSD. The 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 suit office productivity and client presentations on the move.

Connectivity for docked or portable use

Three USB 3.0 ports, one USB-C port with DisplayPort output, HDMI and VGA cover legacy and modern displays without adapters. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless provide wired or wireless network access. The 128GB M.2 SATA SSD frees the 2.5" bay for a second drive if more local storage is required. Windows 10 Home 64-bit is pre-installed.

Sustained output within a 15W envelope

The 15W processor maintains base clocks during extended workloads such as video calls, document editing or light development without thermal throttling. Integrated graphics share system memory, so the 16GB DDR4 pool supports both compute and display tasks. The chassis dissipates heat passively under typical office loads, keeping fan noise low during long meetings.

Questions about this item

What limits sustained performance on the Intel Core i5-8350U?

The 15W TDP and thermal design of the 14.0 inch chassis throttle the 1.70 GHz quad-core processor under continuous load.

How loud or hot does the laptop get when running all day?

Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 and 16GB DDR4 produce modest heat; the slim chassis relies on a single fan that becomes audible during extended 100 percent CPU utilisation.

What must I already own to use the video outputs?

An external monitor or projector with an HDMI or VGA input, plus the matching cable, is required to use the built-in HDMI and VGA ports.
