Business-ready 14-inch laptop

The Latitude 5490 is a 14.0-inch Windows 10 Home laptop built around an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor running at 1.70 GHz with 6 MB cache. It ships with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display. Connectivity includes three USB 3.0 ports, one USB-C with DisplayPort, HDMI, VGA and Gigabit Ethernet.

Upgrade from spinning-disk or dual-core systems

Replacing a mechanical-drive laptop or a dual-core ultrabook with this unit adds four threads and NVMe storage, cutting boot and application load times. The jump is worth it when daily work involves multiple browser tabs, Office suites and frequent travel between desks. Buyers who need more storage or discrete graphics for rendering should look elsewhere.

Sustained office workloads on 15 W envelope

The 15 W processor maintains base clocks during long document, spreadsheet and video-call sessions without thermal throttling. Integrated graphics handle 1080p playback and external 1080p displays over HDMI or USB-C DisplayPort. Battery life benefits from the efficient SSD and low-power UHD 620 iGPU during typical mobile workdays.

Questions about this item

What size and type of storage drive does the 5490 accept for an upgrade?

The laptop uses a 256GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD, so any replacement must be an M.2 NVMe drive.

How is Windows 10 Home activated after a clean install on this Latitude 5490?

The licence is stored in the motherboard firmware; setup reads it automatically when online.

Which component will need replacement first if the 8GB memory is not upgradeable?

The sealed 8GB DDR4 module is soldered, so only the M.2 SSD can be swapped later.
