Dell Latitude 5490 business laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14-inch business laptop built for mobile professionals who need reliable daily performance. It runs on an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 1.9 GHz base speed and 8 MB cache. The system includes 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD for the operating system and core applications. Windows 10 Pro comes pre-installed for immediate deployment.

15 W processor with integrated graphics

The Intel Core i7-8650U operates at a 15 W thermal design power, keeping heat output modest inside the slim chassis. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles office workloads and video playback without a discrete GPU. Fan noise stays low during typical productivity tasks such as document editing, web browsing and video calls. The efficient design supports extended battery runtime away from a power outlet.

Upgrade from dual-core ultraportables

This unit replaces older dual-core ultraportables that struggle with multitasking and modern encryption workloads. The jump to four cores and eight threads makes a clear difference when running virtual machines, heavy spreadsheets or multiple browser tabs. Buyers who need larger local storage or dedicated graphics for creative work should look at a different configuration.

Questions about this item

How is the M.2 SATA SSD installed and what step do people often miss?

The 128 GB M.2 SATA drive slots into the internal M.2 connector and is held by a single screw; the step often missed is enabling the M.2 slot in the BIOS before cloning or installing Windows 10 Pro.

What maintenance or replacement will the 16 GB DDR4 memory need later?

The memory is soldered to the board and cannot be upgraded; no user replacement is possible, so capacity is fixed at 16 GB for the life of the laptop.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the Intel Core i7-8650U?

The 15 W TDP ceiling triggers thermal throttling before the 8 MB cache or four cores become the bottleneck, lowering clocks to keep the chip within its power envelope.
