Compact business laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch notebook built for professionals who need reliable performance in a portable chassis. It ships with Windows 10 Pro and carries a Grade B LCD notice for cosmetic blemishes. The quad-core Intel Core i7-8650U processor runs at 1.90 GHz with 8 MB cache and a 15 W power envelope. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday visual tasks.

Build integration

Three USB 3.0 ports, one USB-C port with DisplayPort output, HDMI and VGA connectors give wide peripheral and display flexibility without extra adapters. Gigabit Ethernet provides wired network stability while 802.11n or better wireless covers mobile use. The 2 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD and 32 GB DDR4 memory are installed, freeing internal slots for other upgrades. A 1080p webcam supports video calls directly from the lid.

Suitability

This unit suits mobile workers who value a mature docking ecosystem, legacy VGA connectivity and ample integrated storage for large local datasets. Buyers who want a pristine screen should look elsewhere because the Grade B panel shows visible scratches or surface marks. Users needing discrete graphics horsepower or a touchscreen will not find those features here. The 15 W processor targets efficiency rather than sustained heavy compute loads.

Questions about this item

Does the 15 W Core i7-8650U throttle under long workloads?

The quad-core processor runs at a 15 W base power; sustained loads will hit that thermal limit before the 1.90 GHz base clock can be maintained.

How loud or hot does the chassis get when the UHD Graphics 620 runs all day?

Integrated graphics share the 15 W package, so fan noise and surface temperature rise only when combined CPU and GPU load push the total power envelope.

Which dock or monitor cables do I already need for the single USB-C/DisplayPort and HDMI outputs?

One USB-C cable carrying DisplayPort alt-mode and one standard HDMI cable will drive two external displays from the built-in ports.
