Mobile workstation 5490

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0-inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i7-8650U processor with four cores and eight threads. It ships with 8GB DDR4 memory and a 256GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD running Windows 10 Pro. The non-touch Full HD display resolves at 1920 x 1080 and is driven by integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620.

Travel-ready productivity

Suits professionals who need a compact 14-inch chassis, native USB-C/DisplayPort output for external monitors, and Gigabit Ethernet for wired docking. Not suited for buyers who want more storage than 256GB, who require discrete graphics for 3D workloads, or who need a touchscreen for pen input.

15-watt quad-core CPU

The deciding specification is the 15W Intel Core i7-8650U with 8MB cache, four cores and eight threads. It sets the performance ceiling for office multitasking and light content creation while enabling the slim chassis and long battery runtime.

Questions about this item

How much heat and power does the i7-8650U produce during all-day use?

The quad-core i7-8650U runs at a 15 W TDP, so sustained workloads stay cool and fan noise remains low.

What peripherals must I already own to use the USB-C and video outputs?

You need a USB-C cable or adapter for the USB-C/DisplayPort port and an HDMI or VGA cable for the respective video ports.

Will my older USB 3.0 drives and Gigabit Ethernet dock work with this Latitude 5490?

Yes — three USB 3.0 ports and a 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet jack give full compatibility with existing accessories.
