Dell Latitude 5490 Business Laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor running at 1.9 GHz. It comes with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. The 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display and Windows 10 Pro make it ready for mobile professionals.

Suits mobile workers needing legacy ports

This unit suits travellers who need HDMI, VGA and USB-C DisplayPort outputs for projectors or external monitors. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless provide wired and wireless connectivity. Buyers who need a touchscreen, discrete graphics or a higher-resolution panel should look elsewhere.

8 GB soldered DDR4 limits multitasking

The 8 GB DDR4 memory is not upgradeable, so the system cannot handle heavy multitasking or large datasets. The 512 GB NVMe SSD offers fast boot and load times within that memory constraint. Check your application memory needs before purchase.

Questions about this item

Does the 15W i7-8650U throttle under long workloads?

The quad-core i7-8650U is rated at 15W; sustained loads will hit that thermal ceiling and clocks will drop to stay within it.

How loud and hot does the chassis get during all-day use?

Integrated UHD 620 graphics and a 15W CPU keep heat modest; the single fan stays quiet under office loads but spins up on extended heavy tasks.

What cables or docks do I need to drive an external monitor?

One HDMI port and one USB-C with DisplayPort alt-mode are built in; bring an HDMI cable or a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter for a second screen.
