Latitude 5491 business laptop

The Dell Latitude 5491 is a 14-inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i5-8400 six-core processor. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB solid-state drive. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed for immediate deployment in managed environments. The anti-glare HD panel suits office lighting conditions.

Sustained workload behaviour

The six-core CPU operates between 2.8 and 4.00 GHz with 9 MB cache for multi-threaded tasks. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 handles display output and light GPU work without a discrete chip. DDR4 memory runs at 2666 MHz to keep data flowing during extended sessions. Thermal design targets typical office duty cycles rather than continuous maximum load.

Installation and common issues

The chassis includes three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, HDMI 1.4, VGA and RJ-45 for legacy peripherals. One USB port supports PowerShare for charging devices while the system sleeps. Wireless uses a Qualcomm QCA61x4A 802.11 ac adapter with Bluetooth 4.1. Buyers who need more storage or a touchscreen should consider other models.

Questions about this item

How much heat or fan noise does the Core i5-8400 produce when the Latitude 5491 runs all day?

The 6-core i5-8400 operates between 2.8 GHz and 4.00 GHz with a 9 MB cache, so sustained workloads will generate noticeable warmth and fan activity, but the 14.0-inch chassis is designed for everyday office use rather than silent operation.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, HDMI 1.4, VGA and RJ-45 on this laptop?

You need standard USB-A devices for the three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports (one supports PowerShare), an HDMI 1.4 cable for external displays, a VGA cable for legacy projectors, and an Ethernet patch cord for the RJ-45 jack.

Will the Intel UHD Graphics 630 drive a second monitor at 1366 x 768 over HDMI 1.4 while the built-in 14-inch panel stays active?

Yes, the UHD 630 supports dual-display output; the HDMI 1.4 port can drive an external screen at up to 1366 x 768 alongside the internal anti-glare WLED panel.
