Business-ready 15.6-inch laptop

The Dell Latitude 5590 is a new business laptop built around a 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor with 6 MB cache. It ships with Windows 10 Pro, 8 GB of DDR4 memory, and a 15.6-inch LED display at 1366 x 768 resolution. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday visual tasks.

Storage type decides fit

The single specification that determines suitability is the 500 GB SATA hard drive spinning at 5400 RPM. Buyers who need the responsiveness of solid-state storage or capacities beyond 500 GB should look elsewhere. The drive uses a standard SATA interface and the system supports up to 32 GB of total memory across two slots.

Simple memory upgrades, no optical bay

Two SO-DIMM slots make RAM expansion straightforward without special tools. The absence of an optical drive means no disc-based recovery media can be used directly. Wireless connectivity relies on 802.11G compatibility and Gigabit LAN, so environments requiring newer Wi-Fi standards will need an external adapter.

Questions about this item

What does the 1.7 GHz base clock on the i5-8350U mean for everyday workloads?

The quad-core processor runs at 1.7 GHz with 6 MB cache, handling typical office applications and web browsing within its 15 W thermal envelope.

How does the 802.11 wireless spec limit network speed?

The 802.11 radio caps throughput well below the 1000 Mbps wired LAN port, so large file transfers are faster over Ethernet.

Will a standard 2.5-inch SATA SSD fit the drive bay?

Yes, the 500 GB 5400 RPM SATA hard drive uses a standard 2.5-inch bay, so any 2.5-inch SATA SSD will mount directly.
