Rugged 11.6" 2-in-1 with i7-8650U

This Dell Latitude 7212 Rugged Extreme is a detachable 2-in-1 built for field work. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8650U with 16 GB of soldered memory and a 256 GB M.2 2242 SSD. The 11.6" FHD touchscreen resolves at 1920 x 1080.

Suits mobile professionals; not for memory upgrades

Field engineers, surveyors and first responders who need a sealed, MIL-STD tested tablet with a bright touch display and pen support will value the rugged chassis. Buyers who want user-replaceable RAM or a second storage drive should look elsewhere because memory is soldered and only one M.2 slot exists.

Single M.2 2242 slot limits storage expansion

The platform provides one M.2 2242 socket with a factory-installed 256 GB drive and supports up to 1 TB in that form factor. No 2.5" bay or additional M.2 slot is present, so total capacity is capped at the single drive you install.

Questions about this item

How do I install the M.2 2242 SSD, and which step is often missed?

Open the rugged chassis, insert the drive into the single M.2 2242 slot, secure it with the screw, then re-seat the thermal pad — skipping the pad causes throttling.

What maintenance will the 3-cell battery need later?

The internal 3-cell lithium-ion pack is not user-replaceable; plan for a depot swap once runtime drops below your shift length.

What limit appears first during sustained loads?

The 65-watt AC adapter and the fanless 0.7-inch chassis cap continuous performance before the CPU reaches its maximum turbo.
