Rugged tablet for field work

The Dell Latitude 7212 is an 11.6 inch rugged tablet built for mobile professionals who need a durable Windows 10 Pro device. It combines an Intel Core i5-7300U processor at 2.6 GHz with 16 GB of memory and a 128 GB M.2 SSD. The full HD touchscreen and integrated webcam support data capture and video calls in challenging environments.

Upgrade from consumer tablets or older rugged gear

This unit replaces fragile consumer slates and earlier rugged models that lack the processing headroom of a 7th generation Core i5 and 16 GB of RAM. The jump is worth it when field software demands more multitasking capacity than 4 GB or 8 GB devices can provide and when a sealed, M.2 solid-state drive is required for vibration resistance.

Suits utility, logistics and public-safety teams

Workers who need a fully sealed, daylight-readable tablet with a serial port for legacy peripherals will find the 7212 a direct fit. Buyers who want more storage than 128 GB or who require a larger display for detailed schematics should look at other form factors. Teams tied to Android or iOS ecosystems will need a Windows-compatible workflow.

Questions about this item

Does the 11.6-inch rugged chassis accept standard VESA or RAM mounts?

The tablet uses Dell's proprietary rugged mounting system; standard VESA or RAM mounts will not fit without a Dell-specific adapter.

How is the M.2 128GB SSD installed, and what step do people miss?

The SSD slots into the internal M.2 connector under the sealed rear cover; the step often missed is torquing the cover screws to the specified value to maintain the IP rating.

When will the 16GB of soldered memory need replacement?

The 16GB is soldered to the board and cannot be replaced; plan on a full device upgrade when workloads exceed the installed capacity.
