Rugged laptop for field work

The Dell Latitude 7414 Rugged is a 14.0 inch laptop built with shock-absorbent materials that meet military-standard requirements for sand, dust and liquid resistance. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor with a 3.40 GHz turbo frequency and 8 GB of DDR4 memory. The 256 GB SATA SSD provides storage for offline data in harsh environments.

Installation and common issues

The unit arrives with the operating system pre-installed so initial setup follows the standard Windows 10 Pro out-of-box experience. Driver updates for the integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 and wireless 802.11ac with Bluetooth 4.2 should be applied before deployment. The emissive backlit keyboard and HD webcam with integrated microphone are ready to use without extra configuration.

Pre-purchase checks

Verify that your docking station or peripheral ecosystem matches the available ports: one USB 2.0, three USB 3.0 (one with PowerShare), HDMI, VGA, two RJ-45 LAN ports, two serial ports and a micro-SIM slot. Confirm the 1366 x 768 non-touch display resolution suits your software interface needs. The chassis measures 9.72 x 14.02 x 2.05 inches and weighs 7.8 lbs, so ensure your carry case or vehicle mount can accommodate these dimensions.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the Intel Core i7-6600U is reaching its 3.40 GHz turbo frequency after setup?

Open Task Manager and watch the Performance tab while running a demanding task; the CPU graph should show speeds climbing toward 3.40 GHz when thermal headroom allows.

Which cables or adapters are not included for the two RJ-45 LAN ports and dual serial ports?

The laptop ships with its AC adapter only; Ethernet patch cables and any DB-9 serial cables or USB-to-serial adapters must be purchased separately.

Should I choose the 256 GB SATA SSD or look for a larger drive for this Latitude 7414 Rugged?

The 256 GB SATA SSD is the only capacity listed for this configuration; if you need more space, plan to add a second drive later or select a different SKU.
