DELL Latitude 7420 Business Laptop

The DELL Latitude 7420 is a 13.9 inch FHD business laptop powered by an Intel 11th Gen Core i7-1185G7 processor. It comes with 16GB of memory and a 512GB NVMe solid state drive. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed and an AC adapter is included. The display is non-touch with a 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Suits Mobile Professionals Not Touch Users

This configuration suits professionals who need a portable Windows 10 Pro machine with a fast processor and NVMe storage for business applications. Buyers who require a touchscreen display should look at a different model because this screen is non-touch. The 16GB memory and 512GB drive support typical office multitasking and local file storage.

512GB NVMe Storage Decides Fit

The single specification that decides fit is the 512GB NVMe solid state drive. It determines how many applications and files can be stored locally without external drives. If your workflow needs more capacity than 512GB, this laptop will not meet that requirement. The NVMe interface also sets the storage speed class for this unit.

Questions about this item

What interface does the 512 GB NVMe drive use and what practical limit does it set?

The drive connects through an NVMe interface, so read and write speeds are limited by the PCIe lane allocation and controller on the i7-1185G7 platform.

What physical space and mounting points does the 512 GB NVMe drive require?

It fits a standard M.2 2280 slot inside the Latitude 7420 chassis and is secured with a single screw.

How is the NVMe drive installed and which step is often missed?

Remove the bottom cover, insert the drive at an angle into the M.2 slot, press it flat and fasten the retaining screw; many forget to re-seat the thermal pad before closing the case.
