Target Professional

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7 8th Gen 1.90 GHz processor with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SSD. It runs Windows 10 Pro 64Bit on a 1920 x 1080 anti-glare display driven by Intel UHD Graphics 620. Connectivity includes HDMI 1.4, USB 3.1 Gen1 ports, DisplayPort over USB Type-C, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac dual-band wireless and Bluetooth 4.1.

Suitability

This machine suits mobile professionals who need a durable magnesium-alloy chassis, a full-size backlit keyboard with track stick and guaranteed battery charge for office applications. Buyers who require discrete graphics performance, a touchscreen interface or more than 8 GB of memory out of the box should look at other configurations. The two memory slots allow an upgrade to 32 GB DDR4 if workloads change.

Deciding Specification

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 uses shared system memory, which determines whether this laptop handles your visual workload. It supports external displays via HDMI 1.4 and DisplayPort over USB Type-C for multi-monitor productivity. If your software demands dedicated video memory or hardware-accelerated 3D rendering, this graphics subsystem will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 256 GB SSD model or look for a larger capacity?

The 256 GB SSD provides fast boot and application loading for typical business workloads; if you store large media libraries or virtual machines locally, consider upgrading to a higher-capacity drive at purchase.

How does the Intel Core i7-8650U at 1.9 GHz perform in everyday office tasks?

What external display resolution can the HDMI 1.4 port support?

HDMI 1.4 drives one external monitor up to 4K at 30 Hz or 1080p at higher refresh rates, suitable for presentations and extended desktop use.
