Mobile productivity workstation

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0 inch laptop built around an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor running at 1.7 GHz with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 512 GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. It ships with Windows 10 Pro and targets professionals who need a compact device for office applications, web browsing and video calls while travelling or working between meetings.

Connectivity and expansion

The system includes three USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI output, a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port with PowerShare, a microSD card reader, Gigabit Ethernet and dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 4.2. These interfaces let you attach external displays, wired networks, legacy peripherals and modern accessories without carrying extra adapters, while the integrated webcam supports remote collaboration out of the box.

Durable daily companion

The chassis is rated Grade B, meaning it shows visible cosmetic blemishes such as scratches or scuffs but remains structurally sound for everyday handling. Its non-touch FHD 1920 x 1080 panel keeps weight and power draw low, and the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the internal screen and one external monitor through the available video outputs. Buyers who need a pristine appearance or discrete graphics performance should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will the 8GB DDR4 memory need upgrading for heavier workloads?

The 8GB DDR4 is soldered and not user-upgradable, so the original capacity remains fixed for the life of the device.

What limits performance first during sustained loads on the i5-8350U?

The 1.7 GHz quad-core processor with integrated UHD 620 graphics will hit its thermal envelope before the 512GB NVMe SSD or 8GB DDR4 become bottlenecks.

How loud and hot does the 14" chassis get when running all day?

The slim 14.0" design relies on a single fan; under continuous load the CPU throttles to manage heat, so surface temperatures rise and fan noise becomes noticeable.
