Portable business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0 inch laptop built for professionals who need a compact Windows 10 Home machine with an Intel Core i7-8650U processor. It suits mobile workers and office users who value a Quad-core CPU, 32GB DDR4 memory and a 512GB M.2 SATA SSD for responsive everyday performance.

Connectivity and included items

The system provides three USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port and a USB Type-C port with Thunderbolt 3 for displays, docks and high-speed peripherals. Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 handle wired and wireless networks, while a MicroSD card reader and integrated webcam support media transfer and video calls. The box contains the laptop, charger and battery.

Integrated graphics limitation

The Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles desktop productivity, video playback and multi-monitor output through HDMI or Thunderbolt 3, but it is not suited for 3D rendering, modern gaming or GPU-accelerated workloads that require discrete graphics memory. Buyers who need dedicated GPU performance should consider a different system.

Questions about this item

Can the M.2 SATA SSD be replaced with a larger drive later?

Yes, the 512 GB M.2 SATA SSD is a standard module and can be swapped for a higher-capacity SATA M.2 drive when more storage is needed.

What stops the i7-8650U from holding its 4.2 GHz turbo during long workloads?

The integrated cooling in the 14-inch chassis limits sustained turbo; the processor drops to its base 1.9 GHz once the thermal ceiling is reached.

How loud does the fan get and how hot does the base become when the laptop runs all day?

Under continuous load the single fan spins up to an audible level and the underside of the aluminium chassis becomes warm to the touch.
