A replacement motherboard for Dell Latitude D400 laptops with a 1.4GHz Intel Pentium M processor already installed
This Dell Latitude D400 motherboard arrives new with a 1.4GHz Intel Pentium M processor already installed. It matches part number T0400 and is compatible with any D400 laptop regardless of the original part number. The board provides the core logic and I/O for the system without requiring a matching spare code.
The integrated 1.4GHz Pentium M processor runs at low voltage typical for ultraportable designs of its era. Under normal office workloads the fan spins quietly and power draw stays modest, keeping the chassis cool during extended typing or web sessions. No discrete graphics are present so thermal load remains light.
This board replaces a failed or damaged systemboard in an existing Latitude D400, restoring full function including two USB ports, Firewire, VGA output, RJ-45 networking, RJ-11 modem, serial, infrared and audio jacks. It is not for buyers who need more storage interfaces, faster CPU performance, modern wireless standards or support for newer operating systems.

Remove the keyboard, palm rest, display cable, heatsink screws and wireless antenna cables before lifting the old board; the step most people miss is reconnecting the modem RJ-11 cable and the infrared port ribbon under the palm rest.
The CMOS battery on the board will eventually lose charge and should be replaced when the system clock drifts; the installed 1.4GHz Pentium M processor is soldered and not separately replaceable.
The single 1.4GHz Pentium M core reaches thermal limits quickly, so the heatsink fan spins at maximum speed and the CPU throttles clock speed to stay within safe temperature.
