14 inch FHD business laptop

The Dell Latitude E5450 is a 14.0 inch Full HD laptop driven by an Intel Core i5-5300U dual-core processor with a base frequency of 2.30 GHz and a turbo frequency of 2.90 GHz. It comes with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 128GB SATA SSD. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Mobile professionals and office users

This machine suits people who need a compact 14 inch display with 1920 x 1080 resolution for document work, web browsing and video calls via the integrated webcam. The non-touch screen and Intel HD Graphics 5500 limit its appeal for creative tasks requiring colour-critical panels or discrete GPU acceleration. Buyers who want more storage or a touchscreen should look at something else.

16GB DDR3 memory ceiling

The system ships with 16GB of DDR3 memory installed across two slots and the manufacturer specifies a maximum supported memory of 16 GB. This cap means no further RAM upgrade is possible, so the configured amount is the final amount for the life of the device.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" SATA SSD, and what step do people miss?

Remove the bottom panel, slide the drive into the 2.5" bay, and secure it with the caddy screws — the step often missed is reattaching the SATA data cable to the motherboard header.

What maintenance or replacement will the 16GB DDR3 memory need later?

The two slots are already filled to the 16 GB maximum, so no upgrade is possible; only a future stick replacement if a module fails.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the i5-5300U with Intel HD Graphics 5500?

The dual-core 2.30 GHz CPU hits its thermal ceiling before the GPU, causing clock throttling that caps performance first.
