Purpose-built business laptop

The Dell Latitude E5450 is a 14.0" HD laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-5600U dual-core processor running at 2.60 GHz with a turbo frequency of 3.20 GHz. It comes with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 2TB 2.5" SATA SSD. Intel HD Graphics 5500 handles the 1366 x 768 non-touch display. The system ships with no operating system installed.

Upgrade path from smaller drives

Replacing a mechanical hard drive or a lower-capacity SSD with the 2TB SATA drive adds substantial space for local files and applications without changing the drive form factor. The two memory slots support up to 16 GB total, so a future RAM upgrade is possible if 8GB becomes a bottleneck. The jump is worthwhile when storage capacity is the primary constraint.

Suits offline workflows and OS flexibility

This unit suits buyers who want a ready-to-run business chassis with ample SSD storage and prefer to supply their own Windows or Linux licence. It is not for users who need a pre-installed operating system, a higher-resolution panel, a touchscreen, or a discrete graphics processor. The 1366 x 768 HD screen and integrated graphics limit external high-DPI monitor use.

Questions about this item

Does the 14.0-inch chassis use a 2.5-inch SATA bay for the 2TB SSD?

Yes, the 2TB SSD is a 2.5-inch SATA drive that fits the standard internal bay in the Latitude E5450.

How do I install an operating system when none is preloaded on the 2TB SSD?

Create a bootable USB installer for Windows or Linux, boot from it, and install the OS to the empty 2TB SATA SSD.

Can I upgrade the 8GB DDR3 memory to the 16GB maximum supported by the E5450?

Yes, the laptop has two DDR3 slots and supports up to 16GB total; add or replace modules to reach that limit.
