Dell Latitude E5450 14 inch HD laptop

The Dell Latitude E5450 is a 14.0 inch HD laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-5300U dual-core processor with a base frequency of 2.30 GHz and a turbo frequency of 2.90 GHz. It comes with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 2TB 2.5 inch SATA SSD. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Build integration and expandability

The system uses DDR3 memory across two slots and supports a maximum of 16 GB, allowing a straightforward capacity increase. The 2.5 inch SATA SSD occupies the primary storage bay, leaving no mechanical hard drive installed. Intel HD Graphics 5500 handles display output on the 1366 x 768 non-touch screen.

Upgrade context and limitations

This unit replaces an older laptop with a slower processor, less memory, or a smaller mechanical drive. The jump is worthwhile when the 5th generation Core i5 and large solid-state storage deliver a noticeable responsiveness improvement for office applications. It is not suited for buyers who need a dedicated graphics processor, a higher resolution display, or memory types newer than DDR3.

Questions about this item

Will the dual-core i5-5300U throttle when it hits its 2.90 GHz turbo under long workloads?

The processor runs at 2.30 GHz base and can reach 2.90 GHz turbo; sustained loads may cause it to drop back toward base speed as the cooling system manages heat.

How loud or hot does the E5450 get when the Intel HD Graphics 5500 drives the 1366 x 768 panel all day?

Integrated graphics share the same thermal budget as the CPU, so fan noise and chassis temperature rise with continuous video or light 3D work but remain typical for a 14.0" business ultrabook.

The spec lists two memory slots and 16 GB maximum — do I need to buy DDR3 SODIMMs myself to reach that limit?

The laptop ships with 8 GB installed across the two slots; adding compatible DDR3 modules up to the 16 GB ceiling is a user upgrade.
