Purpose-built mobile workstation

The Dell Latitude E5450 is a 14.0" FHD laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-5300U dual-core processor running at 2.30 GHz with a turbo frequency of 2.90 GHz. It ships with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 500GB 2.5" SATA SSD. Windows 10 Home 64-bit comes pre-installed for immediate deployment.

Integration and expansion

The system occupies a standard 14-inch footprint and uses two memory slots, both populated to reach the 16GB maximum supported capacity. The 2.5" SATA drive bay is filled by the included 500GB SSD, leaving no internal slot for a second drive. Intel HD Graphics 5500 handles display output on the 1920 x 1080 non-touch panel, freeing discrete graphics resources for other tasks.

Upgrade context

This unit replaces older dual-core laptops limited to 8GB of memory or mechanical hard drives, delivering a noticeable responsiveness lift for office suites and web workloads. The jump is worthwhile when moving from a spinning disk to the new 500GB SSD or when the prior machine cannot exceed 8GB of RAM. Buyers who need more storage or a newer Windows release should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Does the i5-5300U throttle when all cores run at 2.90 GHz for long periods?

The dual-core i5-5300U reaches 2.90 GHz turbo but sustained all-core load typically settles at the 2.30 GHz base clock to stay within thermal limits.

How loud does the fan get during an all-day workload?

The single fan spins up noticeably under continuous load but remains a low hum rather than a whine; surface temperatures stay warm, not hot.

Which memory standard must the existing SODIMMs use to reach 16 GB?

The board accepts DDR3 SODIMMs only; both slots are filled to hit the 16 GB maximum.
