Purpose-built business ultrabook

The Dell Latitude E7440 is a 14-inch ultrabook designed for office professionals who need a lightweight, Windows 10 Pro machine for document work, email and web-based applications. Its 4th-generation Intel Core i5-4200U dual-core processor and 16 GB of DDR3 memory handle typical productivity workloads without excess bulk.

Sustained-load behaviour

Under continuous use the integrated Intel HD Graphics and the 1.6–1.9 GHz processor share thermal headroom, so extended compile jobs or large spreadsheet recalculations will throttle to protect the slim chassis. The 128 GB SATA SSD keeps the system responsive during background updates, but the 1280 x 720 panel limits the amount of on-screen data visible at once.

Deciding specification

The single figure that determines fit is the 128 GB SATA SSD capacity; buyers who need more storage for local archives or virtual machines must look elsewhere, while users comfortable with cloud-first workflows will find the drive adequate.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the 1.6-1.9 GHz i5-4200U get during all-day use?

The dual-core 4th Gen Intel Core i5-4200U runs at 1.6-1.9 GHz with integrated graphics; typical office workloads keep thermals and fan noise low in the 14" chassis.

Which cables or peripherals are required to start using the HDMI and VGA outputs?

The laptop provides full-size HDMI and VGA ports; you only need a compatible monitor cable for either interface to extend or mirror the 1280x720 display.

Can I keep using my existing DDR3 SODIMM modules if I want more than the installed 16 GB?

The system ships with 8 GB x 2 DDR3 SODIMM filling both slots; adding capacity requires replacing the existing modules rather than adding to them.
