High-density 84-bay 3.5-inch storage enclosure with dual controllers and dual power supplies for redundant Fibre Channel connectivity, includes rack rails
The Dell ME4084 is a barebone storage enclosure designed for environments that require massive 3.5-inch drive density. It provides 84 hot-swap bays in a single chassis, making it suitable for archive, backup or media repository workloads. The dual-controller architecture adds path redundancy for mission-critical data. This unit targets administrators who need raw capacity without integrated compute.
The enclosure ships with mounting rails so it can be secured in a standard rack without extra hardware. Dual power supplies and dual controllers are pre-installed, reducing the number of separate components to handle. Weight and depth mean two people or a lift are normally required to seat the chassis safely. Fibre Channel cabling must be routed to each controller for full multipath operation.
Eighty-four 3.5-inch bays deliver extensive raw capacity for sequential workloads such as video ingest or long-term retention. Performance scales with the number and type of drives populated, so a partially filled chassis will not saturate the Fibre Channel links. The enclosure itself contains no compute or RAID logic; those functions must be supplied by attached servers or a separate array controller. When all bays are occupied, further expansion requires an additional ME4084 unit.
